Amanda Rottermund is a partner in the firm’s Art and Cultural Property practice group. Amanda has more than a decade of experience in art law, providing counsel on complex domestic and international transactions within the global art market. With an appreciation for clients’ specific and deeply personal goals regarding their art property, she brings a practical approach when navigating high-value, sophisticated and technical matters.
Amanda works with domestic and international high net worth individuals and families, guiding them through the complexities of managing the lifecycle of their art collections—from acquisition and ownership through disposition and sale. She advises on a wide spectrum of art contracts, including auction, consignment, sale, loan and gift. Amanda counsels galleries and dealers on their business ventures, providing guidance on their operating document suites, transactions and tax compliance. She has experience working with artists and artists’ estates on representation, intellectual property and charitable legacy matters. Amanda also has extensive experience assisting collectors, investors and lenders with art finance and secured transactions involving art.
Amanda has broad experience across fine art and collectible property categories—ranging from antiquities and old masters to contemporary art collections and collectibles such as musical instruments, dinosaurs, rare books and coins.
With her tax experience, Amanda works with clients and their family office and accounting advisors to ensure that their tax planning for art is holistically evaluated, and that the logistics for administering tax and estate plans are contemplated for efficient on-the-ground execution.
A thought leader in the space, Amanda is a frequent author and commentator on art law and related subjects. She has been featured in Bloomberg BNA, the Deloitte Art & Finance Report, Artnet News, Artsy, Trusts & Estates, the ABA Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Journal, and the New York State Bar Association Arts and Sports Law Journal.
