Have you heard how Loeb is moving the needle? Loeb’s lawyers are always advising on the latest trends, issues, and legislation to help our clients and communities succeed. Here are some highlights and firm news from the past few months!
- Debbie White, vice chair of Loeb’s Music Industry group and Entertainment associate Devon Spencer represented award winning artist Christina Aguilera in her new residency at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. The residency kicked off with back-to-back sold out shows on December 30 and 31 of 2023, and is scheduled to feature a total of 20 performances over the next year. Christina will perform some of her biggest hits in an intimate setting, creating a unique experience and performance unlike anything she has done before.
- Loeb hosted its ninth annual IP/Entertainment Law CLE Conference in New York City, designed exclusively for in-house legal professionals in the entertainment industry. More than 240 lawyers representing motion picture studios, television networks, music labels, sports agencies, podcast production studios and various other media and entertainment enterprises gathered on January 25, 2024, for an immersive day of CLE panels. In addition to the yearly NYC conference, the firm also hosts an annual conference in Los Angeles, which has been running since 2008.
- Each year, Loeb recognizes those who have demonstrated a strong commitment to pro bono work. The recipients of the 2024 Top Pro Bono Contributor Award are Leah Bishop, Diane Harris, Eyvonne Mallett and John Monterubio. On behalf of the firm, each recipient will donate $1,000 to a legal service organization or nonprofit that the firm has worked with in the past year. Additionally, there will be a firm wide Pro Bono Recognition Reception in their honor on March 14, 2024. See below for highlights of their work over the past year:
- In 2023, Los Angeles based Trusts & Estates partner Leah Bishop focused a significant amount of time on two pro bono initiatives, The Rape Foundation (TRF), which provides treatment for a wide array of sexual abuse and assault victims while offering educational and training programs for police and other service providers, and the creation of Inland Counties Legal Services’ new pro bono clinic, which helps LGBTQIA+ individuals with their advance health care directives and other written documents.
- New York Real Estate Paralegal Diane Harris provided fundamental support to four Loeb teams working on the Veterans Assistance Project, which helps veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces with service-connected disability claims.
- Eyvonne Mallett, Washington, D.C. based Counsel in our Advanced Media & Technology (AMT) group, has been involved in numerous pro bono matters since joining the firm in 2022. In addition to her long-term representation of a disabled veteran aiming to obtain full benefits from the VA, Eyvonne has been involved with Saving Innocence, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Kids in Need of Defense, the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund, and many other organizations.
- AMT Senior Counsel John Monterubio is a dedicated member of the Pro Bono Committee in New York and has taken on numerous pro bono assignments year after year. In 2023, he focused his efforts on providing support to The Trevor Project, a mental health and suicide prevention organization for members of the LGBTQ+ community and Musicians on Call, which brings live music to hospital patients at their bedside.
- Loeb is pleased to announce that the firm has been recognized in the inaugural edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Companies to Work For: Law Firms.” The list, an expansion of U.S. News’ Careers offerings, takes a look at the country’s top law firms to help employees and job seekers make decisions about companies that may be a good fit for them. The publication's 2024 list analyzes how individual law firms meet the needs and expectations of their employees compared to their competitors. The list employs the following six metrics to evaluate whether a firm provides a positive workplace for its employees: quality of pay and benefits; work-life balance; job stability; physical and psychological comfort; belongingness and opportunities for professional development.
