Former California Governor and Loeb Of Counsel Gray Davis is quoted in episode five of season one’s “Bad Bets” show, a podcast from The Wall Street Journal that unravels big business dramas that have had a big impact on our world. The entire first season chronicles the 2001 collapse of Enron, a notorious energy giant founded in 1985.
In episode five, the podcast discusses the government investigation that ensued after Enron’s collapse, which included probing company executives and the auditors and banks that had enabled the company's business practices. Governor Davis spoke to the podcast host, John Emshwiller, about Enron’s accounting fraud and the company’s role in the California electricity crisis in 2000 and 2001.
“Everyone loved to say how great Enron was,” he told the podcast. “And they turned out to be a total and complete con.”
