Loeb & Loeb LLP was named to The National Law Journal’s inaugural Intellectual Property Hot List, which recognizes firms that excel in providing patent, copyright and trademark legal services. In this special report, The National Law Journal identifies firms that have shown themselves to be innovators in applying legal principles to fast-changing technology, while demonstrating creative strategies for litigation, patent prosecution, licensing and other transactional work.
Loeb & Loeb’s profile in the May 7, 2012 issue highlights several noteworthy matters handled by the firm’s IP attorneys, including recent successes on behalf of:
- The National Music Publishers Association and The Harry Fox Agency, in connection with settlement of a copyright infringement class action suit and resulting negotiation of a licensing agreement with YouTube
- DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc., in connection with a defense jury verdict obtained in a case alleging idea theft with respect to the creation of the animated hit Kung Fu Panda
- Celsis In Vitro Inc., in connection with a federal appellate court victory affirming preliminary injunction against CellzDirect Inc. and Life Technologies Corp for infringement of a patent used to preserve liver cells for use in drug research
The National Law Journal article quoted Jay LeCoque, chief executive officer of Loeb & Loeb’s client Celsis, who said, "L&L has an excellent reputation for IP management. We were thrilled that we received both a preliminary injunction against LTC for our LiverPool product protection, and that we received a European patent for this same product. They were extremely professional throughout the process, especially [partner] Adam Kelly. He would often call me from the car following an important ruling or hearing to give me play-by-play updates."
Douglas Masters, co-chairman of Loeb & Loeb’s Intellectual Property Protection Practice Group, was also quoted saying that the firm's approach is not to "segregate IP litigators from transactional matters. Whether we're talking about media, pharma, music or any other industry, we have skilled litigators who work collaboratively with people who are working on all kinds of deals so our IP skills aren't used in a vacuum."
The National Law Journal, published by ALM, is a leading weekly legal news publication. Firm selections for the Intellectual Property Hot List were made by the publication’s editors based on reporting and nomination information submitted by law firms. Decisions were based on evaluation of each firm’s litigation results at the trial or appelate levels, including verdicts and settlements; transactions; or other matters completed in the past year.
