Michael P. Zweig

Michael P. Zweig is an accomplished litigator and counsellor. He maintains a diverse national practice with an emphasis on contract and partnership disputes, as well as employment and media and entertainment litigation.  Michael regularly serves as a trusted advisor to his clients, assisting CEOs, boards of directors and organizations at their highest level in problem solving and making sound legal judgments in matters affecting their business.

Coupling his decades of litigation experience with his deep understanding of his clients’ business goals, Michael is often asked to assess litigation risks, costs,  and the potential for success, or failure. He regularly advises clients in crisis situations  as to communications and public relations issues. Loeb calls upon Michael’s experience and judgment in his role as the firm’s general counsel to advise on a myriad of legal and business issues, and he counsels attorneys throughout the firm as to issues of attorney ethics and professional responsibility.

Michael has litigated and arbitrated cases throughout the United States, frequently through trial, representing clients in high-profile, high-stakes litigation involving business torts, partnership and shareholder disputes, breach of contract, false advertising and deceptive trade practices (including Attorney General investigations), audit, right of publicity and defamation suits, as well as a wide variety of employment-related litigation, including restrictive covenant/trade secret litigation, discrimination and harassment suits. He has represented clients from a wide variety of industries, including media and advertising, public relations, financial services, film, television and theatre, real estate and insurance brokerage.

Among Michael’s most memorable representations, he served as counsel to the Southern District of New York Special Master with respect to the settlement of the Austrian Holocaust Litigation, as well as special counsel to the New York State Assembly on Environmental Conservation, coordinating New York State’s Love Canal investigation and conducting extensive legislative hearings concerning the dumping of hazardous substances throughout western New York State.

Widely recognized as a thought leader in his industry, Michael  authored the Entertainment Litigation chapter appearing in "Business and Commercial Litigation in Federal Courts," a widely circulated practice treatise. In addition, he has been a speaker on issues relating to media and advertising, ethics, contracts, email and electronic discovery, and crisis public relations, at continuing legal education seminars sponsored by the American Bar Association, the Bureau of National Affairs, the UCLA Law Symposium and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Michael was also the co-editor/author  of  "Courthouses of the Second Circuit: Their Architecture, History and Stories" (Acanthus Press, October 2015), which tells the story of the over 15 federal courthouses and buildings located in New York, Connecticut and Vermont. Published by the Federal Bar Council and Foundation with the support of the Second Circuit's Committee on History and Commemorative Events, the book has been widely distributed to judges and lawyers.
