Stan Johnson focuses his practice on private equity, family office, and venture capital equity and debt transactions, with a particular focus on representing investors and emerging growth companies in the life sciences sectors, both medicines and devices. Stan takes a commercial approach to helping clients navigate the changing dynamics between private equity and venture capital funds and the rising profile of family offices.
With respect to family offices, Stan advises his clients on how to make savvy, profitable investments that have a positive social impact. Stan works closely with Loeb’s commercial finance group to provide high net worth individuals and families with loans for the purchase of art, boats, planes and real estate and for investments in private equity, venture capital and hedge funds.
A veteran in the industry, Stan has decades of experience handling middle-market private equity transactions, including the representation of domestic and foreign equity sponsor groups, mezzanine lenders, and other financial and industry buyers and sellers. His practice includes all aspects of fund formation and administration, portfolio investments, add-ons, joint ventures, recaps, workouts, and divestments.
After graduating from law school, Stan served as a captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps. He is a history and foreign affairs buff, an avid reader, and a follower of developments in military and intelligence-related matters. He has also authored two fiction action thriller novels — Once a Ranger and Lethal Agent — published by Penguin. After the army, Mr. Johnson studied and worked in Paris, where he obtained a master’s degree in French corporate law from the University of Paris II.
