Loeb & Loeb is proud to announce that Ann Chen, deputy chair of the firm’s Capital Markets & Corporate department, Real Estate partner Jill Jones, Litigation paralegal Mariana Nielson, Entertainment senior counsel Scott Wilcox and Private Client partner Kensi Wolgamott have been honored with the firm’s 2025 “Top Pro Bono Contributor Award” for their exceptional efforts and dedication to pro bono work in the past year.
Demonstrating the vast reach of the firm’s pro bono program, their engagement supported several transformative initiatives. These included continuing a legal assistance program for the LGBTQIA+ community, increasing efforts in combating human and sex trafficking, and serving the needs of veterans, immigrants, asylum seekers, formerly incarcerated individuals and other at-risk demographics.
As a token of appreciation for their unwavering commitment to pro bono service, each honoree selected a legal service organization or nonprofit they have collaborated with in the past year, with a $1000 donation made by the firm on their behalf.
A Pro Bono Recognition Reception was held to commemorate the honorees on March 12, 2025, which recognized all Loeb lawyers and professional staff who contributed at least 20 hours of pro bono work in 2024.
Below are summaries highlighting the remarkable achievements of each “Top Pro Bono Contributor Award” recipient in 2024.
Ann Chen – Los Angeles
Ann lent a helping hand to Loeb’s first-ever legal name and gender marker change clinic with nonprofit Bet Tzedek, helping LGBTQIA+ individuals navigate the petition process to legally change their names and/or gender markers on their government-issued identification documents. Continuing her advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community, she participated in an Advance Health Care Directive pro bono clinic with Inland Counties Legal Services (ICLS), guiding LGBTQIA+ clients through the procedure of documenting medical preferences on their gender identity and expression. A champion for children’s rights, she handled two foster care adoptions with Alliance for Children’s Rights and is representing three children seeking asylum with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND).
Jill Jones – Los Angeles
Partnering with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA), Jill supported low-income tenants in downtown Los Angeles, counseling clients on landlord-tenant housing issues spanning from housing disputes, anti-tenant harassment complaints, evictions and other concerns. She also contributed to the fight against sex trafficking in Los Angeles by providing pro bono support to a nonprofit dedicated to this critical cause. In addition, Jill provided representation to adoptive parents in an adoption case in conjunction with the Alliance for Children’s Rights’ Adoption Day in spring 2024.
Mariana Nielson – Los Angeles
In 2024, Mariana helped a senior citizen facing eviction attempts by a family member, ultimately securing a restraining order against the family member, which ensured the client could remain safely in their home. Mariana also assisted a family of five from Afghanistan in applying for lawful permanent resident status in the U.S. through the nonprofit HIAS, and she helped a New Yorker apply for SNAP benefits through a clinic with Legal Services NYC. An advocate for voters’ rights, she provided assistance to callers with voting-related questions leading up to the 2024 presidential election.
Scott Wilcox – New York
Scott coordinates Loeb’s veteran-focused pro bono initiatives. Last year, teaming up with in house counsel from firm clients Gap and Comcast, he spearheaded the firm’s onboarding of a new case portfolio for its pro bono partnership with the Veterans Assistance Project targeted at providing legal assistance to veteran clients regarding disability claims and appeals before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Scott also serves on the firm’s New York Pro Bono Committee.
Kensi Wolgamott – Washington, D.C.
Over the past year, Kensi dedicated her time to supporting a range of nonprofits. She worked closely with a nonprofit that empowers organizations, small businesses and communities affected by systemic oppression through capacity building, legal support and cross-sector collaboration. She has also provided legal assistance to an advocacy platform focused on ending extreme poverty through diverse initiatives, including artist collaborations, campaigns, festivals and events, and more. Additionally, Kensi contributed her legal skills to an organization that offers tuition-free music lessons by professional artists to youth in under-resourced communities.
