Loeb & Loeb is pleased to announce that Ronelle Porter, assistant deputy chair of the firm’s Capital Markets and Corporate department, has been selected by the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as the recipient of the prestigious 2023 Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Beacon Award. Ronelle is recognized for demonstrating qualities that exemplify the late Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg, including serving as a voice for underrepresented members of society and her unwavering commitment to advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal community and beyond.
With nearly 20 years of experience as a transactional attorney, Ronelle focuses her practice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, joint ventures, cross border transactions, corporate governance and general corporate matters. Aside from her main practice, Ronelle serves as chair of Loeb’s affinity group for its Black lawyers, Black@Loeb, where she helps unite and connect Loeb’s Black lawyers, cultivating a community that values representation and belonging across all practices.
Ronelle also serves as the New York office’s co-chair of Loeb’s women-focused affinity group, the Women’s LEAD Network, and she is a member of the firm-wide Diversity & Inclusion Committee. In these roles, Ronelle serves as an exceptional leader, mentor, collaborator and advocate for lawyers across all practices. She has been instrumental in establishing a foundation of support for women lawyers and promotes allyship among firm lawyers within the New York office. Most recently, she helped support, promote and expand Loeb’s newly established diversity initiative that prioritizes business development opportunities for women partners at the firm. Ronelle is also a member of Loeb’s Attorneys of Color and Ethnic Diversity (ACED) affinity group.
Ronelle was honored at the New York State Bar Association's annual meeting in New York City on January 18, 2023. During her acceptance speech, she encouraged the audience to “move into spaces not open and welcoming,” noting that there are few women of color working in the corporate finance law and M&A fields. She also advised those at the event to lend a hand to others while pursing their own goals, adding that her motto is "lift while you climb.”
