CPRA Regulations Delayed Past July 1 Deadline, Expected Q3 or Q4 2022

Loeb & Loeb partner Tanya Forsheit, co-chair of the firm’s Privacy, Security & Data Innovations practice, is quoted in an article published by the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ (IAPP’s) publication The Privacy Advisor. The article discusses the postponement of the original July 2022 deadline to finalize regulations for the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). The CPRA rulemaking process will now likely be completed in either the third or fourth quarters of 2022.

"I'm not surprised, but very disappointed because companies are working hard to update policies and procedures and to implement changes that are required for digital properties, and cannot complete that work without knowing what the regulations will require," Tanya said. "And the regulations here will be much more extensive than the CCPA [California Consumer Privacy Act] regulations were. Keep in mind that readiness is not just an exercise in obtaining legal advice. Companies actually have to operationalize and that takes time."
