Loeb & Loeb mourns the passing of our close friend and partner Seth Gelblum.
A giant in the live stage arena, Seth provided legal counsel to producers, writers, directors, composers and other rights holders involved in many of the most significant theatrical productions of the past 30 years. Seth was a legend in his practice, who earned the respect and admiration of his peers, his clients and the theater and entertainment communities. As recipient of the Tony Honor for Excellence in Theater, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the playwright development workshop New Dramatists, and numerous other accolades throughout his illustrious career, Seth’s passion for the stage, his commitment to his clients and his contributions to the theater were extraordinary.
In addition to his remarkable legal practice, we remember Seth for his unwavering dedication to pro bono and nonprofit causes. He served as chairman of the board of New Dramatists, the premier playwright support organization in the country. He was also a longtime member of the board of directors of Lawyers for Children, a national model for the representation of children in family court and in class action litigation. Earlier this year, Seth accepted the “LFC Champion” award in recognition of his legacy of support for Lawyers for Children and the organization’s young clients. Together with his wife Orren Alperstein, Seth was also a founding board member and officer of the Canavan Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the eradication of Canavan disease, a rare and fatal genetic neurological disorder, which took the life of their daughter Morgan in 1997.
Seth passed away on August 8, 2016. He is survived by his wife Orren, two children and countless friends and colleagues who will miss him dearly. He was a brilliant lawyer, a dedicated friend and an incredible human being who has left an indelible mark upon our firm and upon all who knew him.
