Allison Hoff Cohen has more than 25 years of experience across a diverse range of industries, including emerging automotive technology of connected and autonomous vehicles, blockchain technology, adtech, entertainment, hospitality and casinos. She advises on a full spectrum of issues and transactions related to privacy, security, dealer franchise and marketing. Allison provides creative and pragmatic solutions to help clients leverage data and technology while navigating today’s complicated compliance landscape.
Allison is known for her business-oriented approach as she works with clients to launch products impacted by data protection laws and regulations, including the U.S. state privacy laws and the European Global Data Protection Regulation. Allison’s experience includes developing privacy policies and programs for her clients, providing counsel on public policy privacy issues, and drafting and negotiating data deals that protect privacy, including data processing addendums and automotive dealer data sharing agreements.
Formerly Managing Counsel at Toyota for over 16 years, Allison provided data privacy and data governance advice and counsel for business units across Toyota companies, including Toyota Motor North America, Toyota Connected (a data analytics company), Toyota De Puerto Rico, Toyota De Mexico and Toyota of Canada. During that time, she served as Toyota’s data privacy subject matter expert and key participant in industry-wide, governmental affairs initiatives that involved meetings and communications with the Federal Trade Commission, the Government Accountability Office and U.S. Senator Ed Markey. She was actively engaged in the auto industry’s trade organizations, as she worked with a network of lawyers and government officials to develop the auto industry’s self-regulating privacy principles for connected vehicle technologies and services. Allison initiated and led Toyota’s implementation of new processes; policies and creation of an innovative web portal for consumers that explains connected vehicle data privacy to meet and exceed the standards of the privacy principles. These efforts have since been lauded by government agencies as a model.
